Apple is taking a serious stand against AI image-generating apps that “advertised the ability to create nude images created without input”. Apple has removed several AI apps from the App Store that claimed they were “capable of creating nude images without users’ consent,” according to a new report.

On Monday, 404 Media published a report that discovered how various companies are using Instagram ads to promote apps that “undress any girl for free.” It can be annoying that when you click on some ads, the Apple Store will appear directly. However, what really moves stagnant water is the application described as an “art generator”.

According to today’s report, Apple initially did not respond to 404 Media’s inquiries on Monday. However, after receiving links to specific ads and App Store pages, Apple removed these apps from the App Store.

The report explains in detail:

“Apple has removed several AI image-generating apps from the App Store after 404 Media found that the apps advertised the ability to take nude photos without consent, signaling that app store operators are planning to take more action against this type of against applications.”

In all, Apple removed three apps from the App Store, but only after we sent the company direct links to those apps and the ads associated with them, suggesting that the company was unable to find the apps that violated its policies on its own. As the report suggests, this is likely to be more cat-and-mouse in the future.

What are the dangers of AI image editors?

The use of image editors with artificial intelligence raises new risks in the online space. These tools allow you to create nude or nude-looking images that don’t actually exist. This raises serious ethical and personal data protection concerns, as users’ faces or bodies can be manipulated without the data subjects’ knowledge. These applications are easy to abuse and increase the risk of personal data being abused, for example in the form of harassment or blackmail.

That’s why it’s important for app stores and tech companies to actively crack down on these types of apps. Measures include the rapid and effective removal of such applications from the App Store or Google Play, and the development and application of algorithms capable of automatically identifying and blocking such content. Such measures can help reduce the risk of online harassment and abuse, and protect users against misuse of their personal information.
