A new rumor could fuel hope for those who were planning Christmas with the Switch 2.

For a long time, almost all sources assumed that Nintendo would bring the next edition of the hybrid console, which has sold nearly 140 million copies, seven years after the release of the first generation Switch, sometime in 2024, but in February, to our great regret, several reports gave news that the Japanese had postponed it the start.

At the time, the rumor was that the company would have more time to create exclusive games and stock up the initial stock, avoiding the supply chaos surrounding the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. However, a recent report now claims that Nintendo won’t need the extra time.

The source of the current report is a leaker named Connor, who previously had proven predictions about Samsung’s chips, and now approaches the issue from the hardware side as well. The leaker writes on the X interface that the Nintendo Switch 2 can be launched in the second half of this year, as all major contracts with component suppliers have been negotiated.

Connor https://twitter.com/OreXda/status/1783769461457404376 and it also covers the specifications: based on the post, an Nvidia Tegra T239 processor will work in the new Switch, which will be manufactured by Samsung, and the Koreans will also supply the display of the OLED version. According to the leaker, however, it is possible that the variant equipped with LCD displays manufactured by Sharp will be released first.

The bottom line is that Nintendo is preparing the LCD and OLED versions of the Nintendo Switch in parallel (in the current generation, it was released 4 years apart), and that the new hybrid console could even arrive this year. However, it is important to reiterate that this is currently only claimed by Connor, while earlier predictions of a 2025 launch came from several sources, including gaming industry figures, to whom Nintendo is said to have already served the postponement as a given.

If the generation change really only takes place next year, then March seems to be the most likely scenario, since the original Switch was also launched in 2017, and Nikkei Asia previously also learned that the Japanese are targeting this period. As for the performance of the new console, it is rumored that the Nvidia Tegra 239 SoC driving the machine will have an Ampere GPU with 1280 CUDA cores and an 8-core (Cortex A78) Arm processor, along with 12 GB of RAM.

The Switch 2 would not reach the level of the weakest 9th generation console, the Xbox Series S, but would rather be somewhere around the Steam Deck, with DLSS Super Resolution upscaling and hardware ray tracing capabilities.
