Artificial intelligence has moved into smart glasses from Ray-Ban and Meta – iPon

The EssilorLuxottica development team behind Meta Platforms and Ray-Ban has been working on joint smart glasses since 2020, and the fruits of the collaborative work are beginning to ripen more and more. Already last year’s Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses received a significant update, along with a new style, through fresh colors and frame shape.

Many people were surprised by the new generation of smart glasses last year, and more and more people became interested in them, thanks to the fact that they can provide more and more with fewer and fewer compromises. In the future, Meta will condense even more options into the device, while the selection will also be more colorful.

Let’s get over the change in appearance right at the beginning. The new glasses are housed in a frame with a more curved bottom, so it will deviate a bit from the original and legendary Wayfarer shape and will resemble the Skyler model. The change is not significant, many may not even notice it until the new and previous models are placed next to each other, but the new frame shape is a little different. Perhaps a degree more graceful. The new Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses will be available in a total of six different color combinations.

For the first time, there will also be a limited version, this is already a result of another collaboration with Ferrari, the product appeared in the range under the name Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarrer Scuderia Ferrari Miami LTD. As its name suggests, it still received the previous frame form.

With Meta’s glasses, it was already possible to take videos and photos in good quality, and if appropriate, start a live login, while it was also perfectly suitable for listening to music and making phone calls. In addition, with the current update comes a higher level of integration with other platforms. There will be WhatsApp and Messenger compatibility, thanks to which people will have the opportunity to stream the image of the sunglasses to their friends through the aforementioned applications. Thanks to this, a video call can be much more intense in the future.

In terms of listening to music, there will be an innovation that Apple Music support will also appear in the line. It will be possible to control the music player application through the glasses without picking up the mobile phone. Spotify support was already provided, so the competition between the two big music streaming platforms intensified on another front, although in this case we cannot speak of a particularly broad user base.

The most important innovation is the introduction of the multimodal AI assistant. For now, it will be available in English in the United States and Canada. The device will be able to see its surroundings using the 12 megapixel camera and will support, for example, the translation function. If a person glances at a text in a foreign language, he can ask the glasses to translate the given text by saying “Hey Meta” and read the information to the user.

Simple voice control will also be able to be used in a more advanced way with the intervention of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. People will be able to ask generative AI wrapped in sunglasses for near-real-time information.

Even using the camera, people can ask artificial intelligence about objects, statues, and buildings they see in their surroundings, and it will be able to recognize different things and provide more information about them. Thanks to this, you can learn much more about the places you visit during a trip or vacation. The capabilities of generative AI will be constantly honed by Meta from now on, and in the future, this option will be able to provide even more and more efficiently to people who wear glasses.

Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses still have an MSRP of $300 and go for $330 with polarized lenses, but there will be more expensive pieces. The Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarrer Scuderia Ferrari Miami LTD, for example, already costs $500.
