It has been revealed what DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR bandwidth Intel’s new video cards can come with – iPon

--

Intel’s next-generation video cards, the members of the Battlemage series, are already in full swing, although company officials have not yet revealed exactly when the new video cards will make their appearance on the market. It is definitely a good sign that more and more information is leaking about them, because this means that the start time is not too far away either. We recently wrote about some members of the Battlemage series, and now, thanks to a patch, the new video cards could be on the table again, as it became clear what bandwidth DisplayPort 2.1 support will be offered.

It has been no secret for some time that the members of the Battlemage series come with DisplayPort 2.1 support, but a new patch revealed that the UHBR20 mode with the highest bandwidth will unfortunately not be handled by the new products, as the UHBR20 support has been removed from the display driver in the meantime. Currently, the UHBR13.5 mode is the maximum supported by the novelties, that is, the middle speed class was targeted.

By the way, the DisplayPort 2.1 standard defines three bandwidth levels, of which 10 Gbps is available for the UHBR10, 13.5 Gbps for the UHBR13.5, and 20 Gbps for the UHBR20. – per lane. Among those listed, the 10 Gbps class is mandatory, while the other two are optional. By the way, the UHBR20 mode, which offers the highest bandwidth, comes with separate cables, the most important properties of which are described in the DP80 standard.

In the case of the Intel Arc Alchemist series, DisplayPort 1.4a is currently supported, and the products have also been prepared for the UHBR10 class of the DisplayPort 2.0 standard, but UHBR13.5 and UHBR20 support is not available. Compared to this, the Battlemage series definitely promises to be a step forward, as they come with UHBR13.5 support. It is not yet clear why UHBR20 support was removed from the driver, so it is also a mystery whether this is a temporary or final decision. Hopefully we will get an answer to this in the coming weeks and months.

DisplayPort 2.1 support is currently only available for AMD video cards based on RDNA 3, of which the Radeon RX 7000 series consumer versions support a maximum bandwidth of UHBR13.5, but the “PRO” editions intended for the professional market already support UHBR20 mode is also available. This is not of great importance at the moment, since the potential inherent in the UHBR20 mode cannot yet be exploited with many monitors, which support it – three in number – and are not exactly cheap.

According to the latest rumors, the Battlemage series could be launched sometime in the fall, most likely during November, around Black Friday, so that the individual video cards could be on the market in time to take advantage of the pre-Christmas gift buying frenzy.
