GALAX came up with a single-slot GeForce RTX 4060 Ti video card equipped with 16 GB memory – iPon

--

Galax has produced an interesting video card that EXPreview staff have already tested. The novelty is nothing more than a single-slot GeForce RTX 4060 Ti model with 16 GB of on-board memory, which is compatible with many configurations, since it requires only one slot.

These types of video cards, which also contain a relatively large amount of VRAM, are popular in systems that accelerate AI tasks, and thanks to the single-slot structure, even several such video cards can be crowded together if this is the need. Galax does not aim at the AI market, but rather at gamers who want a compact mid-range video card.

This model has a “blower” type cooler, where the fan is located in the back section of the video card, and the air it moves blows through the slats parallel to the printed circuit board, which can escape to the outside through the back panel ventilation. In theory, compact cooling can turn out to be loud, and it doesn’t necessarily support tuning either, but EXPReview’s staff has already answered whether this is really the case.

In terms of basics, as usual, we are dealing with a solution equipped with an AD106 GPU, which in this case has 4352 CUDA cores and 16 GB of VRAM on board. The GPU Boost average clock represents a value of 2.5 GHz, there is no mention of factory tuning, and the TDP frame itself is, as usual, 165 W, i.e. 5 W higher than what we were used to with the 8 GB version. The new video card requires a single eight-pin PCI Express power cable to operate.

Based on the cooling test, it looks like the operating temperature of the GPU is not dangerously high at all, only 69.5 degrees Celsius was measured, while the temperature of the hotspot was 81.9 degrees Celsius. These values are very impressive, since it is only a single-slot solution. Of course, the idle temperature is higher than usual, as it represents a value of 43.6 degrees Celsius, but this cannot be called bad.

The next pivotal point is the noise level of the tiny fan. If the load justifies it, the speed of the air mixer jumps up to 3100 RPM, which can be considered as 84% of the maximum speed. In this case, the noise level represents a value of 51.4 dB(A) at a distance of 50 centimeters, which is much higher than what can be seen in models with individual cooling. This was actually to be expected, since for adequate cooling performance in this case, a fast-spinning fan delivering a sufficient amount of air is required, as the surface of the cooling block is not very large.

Despite the single-slot cooling, some tuning was also possible, during which the clock signal of the GPU was increased by 260 MHz, while the effective clock signal of the memory was increased by 220 MHz. The maximum clock during the test ended up being 3045 MHz, so the tuning resulted in a roughly 5% performance increase overall.

Galax’s single-slot 16 GB GeForce RTX 4060 Ti video card is currently only available in China, but it is possible that it will eventually reach other regions as well. It is currently uncertain whether the product will be available in Europe under the KFA2 brand name, but there is a slight chance.
