The first HMD smartphones have been released, and these are their Hungarian prices

--

The manufacturer is launching three devices under its own name: Pulse, Pulse Plus and Pulse Pro. They will be available from May.

Human Mobile Devices (HMD), which also produces Nokia devices, presented its first self-produced smartphones: the HMD Pulse Pro, Pulse+ (Pulse Plus) and Pulse. The devices will be available for purchase in Hungary from the middle of May, they are very similar externally and have in common that they can be repaired at home with the iFixit repair kit, or some parts can be replaced.

The dimensions of the device housing are almost perfectly uniform: 163.19 x 75.02 x 8.45 millimeters and 187 grams for the Pulse and Plus models, 163.19 x 75.02 x 8.55 mm and 196 grams for the Pro version. All three mobiles have plastic housings and the same 6.65-inch display. The manufacturer promises a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels (HD+), a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and a maximum brightness of 600 nits. According to the press release, “the Pulse collection already lays the design foundations of HMD: bold lines, unique tones, modern and clean aesthetics, elegant design, classy design”. It is really true that the design is uniform, and the version with a blue, green, purple or even an orange back can be attractive.

Less reassuring is the uniformly used Unisoc T606 system chip, which is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM in the basic and Plus models, and 8 GB in the Pro version. Virtual RAM expansion option for all models, 4 or 6 GB of the Pulse’s 64 GB of built-in storage can be extracted, the user can allocate up to 8 GB of the internal storage of the Plus 128 GB and the Pro 256 GB as virtual memory . Expansion of the storage space is an option for all three devices by accepting a maximum of 256 GB microSD.

The Android 14 system and the promise of two updates and three years of quarterly security updates are common among the devices. All three models have a fingerprint scanner built into the side button and a 3.5mm audio jack, but all three phones only have one media speaker, so they don’t sound in stereo. The 5,000 mAh battery is also shared, but the charging speed increases to 20 watts in the case of the Pro, and stops at 10 watts in the other two models. A USB Type-C charging cable is included in the box, a wall adapter is not. The USB-C connector on all three devices is USB 2.0, the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) modem and the GPS, A-GPS and Galileo navigation capabilities are also the same. All three phones can accept Dual SIM and two nanoSIMs.

All three devices are equipped with NFC, making them suitable for mobile payments, leaving the only difference: the cameras. The HMD Pulse works with an 8-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash. The rear camera of the Pulse Plus increases to 50 megapixels, while the Pulse Pro uses both the front and rear cameras with 50 megapixel sensors. The system can recognize different scenes, the press release says, so it can be exposed with hand gestures, for example. The secondary camera does not divide or multiply, it is a 2 megapixel depth sensor.
