MediaTek’s chip intended for cheap 5G mobile phones – iPon – switches to a higher tempo

--

MediaTek provides its partners with an amazing range of colorful system chips, and the chip designer has now come up with a solution that will attract the interest of many. Users can also be happy about this. The Dimensity 6300 will be able to contribute to the birth of 5G smartphones offered for quite reasonable amounts.

Dimensity 6300 cannot be called modern in terms of the basics, even though it is a new product, MTK is able to offer it at low costs. It has a pair of ARM Cortex-A76 cores in the company of six ARM Cortex-A55 sharpened for energy efficiency. The pacemakers will be able to reach a frequency of 2.4 GHz, and the other processors can scale up to a maximum of 2 GHz if the chip needs to mobilize all its power.

The role of the integrated GPU was given to the Mali-G57 graphics processing unit, two of which made it into the chip, so we can talk about a Mali-G57 MP2 package. It is not known exactly what clock the IGP is running this time. But we can talk about at least 1 GHz, which is definitely within the envelope, since the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ has already reached this level with the same graphics unit.

The Dimensity 6300 has already undergone several measurements, and based on its scores, its performance will be around the Samsung Exynos 1330 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.

The two-channel, 16-bit memory controller supports LPDDR4X chips, 2133 MHz modules can be used here, providing a maximum bandwidth of 17.1 GB/s. The storage space can only use UFS 2.2 technology, according to the specifications.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 enables the use of a Full HD+ display, and a 120 Hz display can also be used alongside the chip. A 108-megapixel camera can also be included in the system chip, and it can simultaneously control two imagers with up to 16-megapixel resolution. 4K Ultra HD video recording can also be solved with it.

The 5G mobile network modem also supports VoNR technology, while allowing download speeds of 3.3 Gbps. The novelty focuses only on the Sub-6 frequency range within the framework of 5G, but does not choose between NSA and SA networks. Wi-Fi compliant with the 802.11ac standard, the Bluetooth 5.2 module, and the advanced A-GPS receiver also provide connectivity options.

TSMC will take care of the production of the novelty, as with all MediaTek chips. MediaTek and TSMC have been working closely together for a long time. The Dimensity 6300 is not manufactured using an advanced process, it is only made with a 6 nm strip width, which is an improved version of the 7 nm node in Taiwan. This is a good option for many of these cheaper chips these days.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 will be available soon. The novelty may debut in a cost-effective mobile phone, and there is a good chance that one of the big Chinese manufacturers will be the first to pounce on it. But big brands (e.g. Samsung) are also increasingly using MTK developments.
