Sony would experiment with quite interesting haptic functions.

23.04.2023 – Although Sony promised a revolution a few years ago with its brand new DualSense controller equipped with haptic feedback, four years after its release, we can say that the promised great revolution has fallen short. Well, not because the haptic functions are bad, of course, it just doesn’t add as much to the gaming experience in practice as so many – following Sony’s advertisements – would have expected from it.
A new Sony patent spotted by GameRant, however, would take haptics to a new level, and while I doubt this will be a true controller reform, the idea itself is still revolutionary. According to this, the haptics of DualSense would also be supplemented with sounds: the sounds of the game, as well as the sounds made by the player, could be converted by the controller into haptic feedback, which would thus also be felt in the hand holding it.
For example, you scream loudly during a scary scene in a horror game, then during the next jump scare, the controller generates a haptic sensation based on your previous actions. The conversion of in-game sounds is another interesting topic: this function will probably be interesting for hearing-impaired players, who will be able to recognize sound effects not only based on the signals displayed on the screen, but also from the feedback of the controller.
However, it is not known when this new haptic function will be part of the PS5-DualSense ecosystem, if it will be completed at all. For the time being, the idea only exists at the level of a patent, and there have been instances where a plan that sounds good on paper is ultimately rejected for some reason. At first glance, the transformation of the player’s voice does not seem like such a big innovation, but the transfer of in-game effects to the haptic controller can be particularly useful for many, which can bring them a never-before-experienced level of gaming experience.
