Kioxia’s new UFS 4.0 memory has become smaller

--

Of course, the new design is also faster compared to its predecessor.

Kioxia has announced that they have created their latest UFS memory, which uses the JEDEC-approved UFS 4.0 standard.

The development in question, which supports MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0, provides an information transfer of 23.2 Gbps on one lane, which will be 46.4 Gbps at the device level. Of course, backward compatibility up to UFS 3.1 is a given, but in this case you have to give up a part of the performance.

According to Kioxia, the advantage of their new design compared to the previous generation solution is the smaller size, because instead of 11 x 13 mm, only 9 x 13 mm is to be reckoned with, which is not negligible at the ultra-mobile level. In addition, in terms of practical performance, 15% faster sequential and 50% faster random speeds can be achieved when writing, while reading is 30% faster than its predecessor.

Kioxia is already delivering samples of its new UFS 4.0 256 and 512 GB and 1 TB memory to partners, and actual availability is likely this year.
