This year, not only iOS has exciting new features for Apple users.

It is unlikely that Apple will make a bigger splash at the WWDC developer conference in June than last year, since the 2023 show provided an opportunity to unveil the Vision Pro AR/VR headset, but it is still worth waiting for the event, as there are several rumors about indicates that the apple company is significantly redesigning the iOS operating system driving iPhones, which will be presented here for the first time.

And now, according to a new report, one of the basic applications of the next-generation macOS, Calculator, is also facing big changes, thanks to which the app could be much more useful than its current form.

The built-in calculator on Macs last underwent a major update nearly 10 years ago, with the release of OS X Yosemite, when Apple said goodbye to the previous design to adapt the desktop operating system to the flat style that debuted with iOS 7. The AppleInsider however, based on his own information, the factory calculator will change at several points in the next release of macOS:

  • The program gets a completely new design, which adopts the round buttons and darker shades seen in iOS, and the window size will finally be freely resizable.
  • The application makes it possible to view our calculation history, so they no longer need to be recorded and managed separately.
  • A new function called Math Notes is also added, with which we can make notes related to calculations.
  • Apple also touches on the management of conversions, making the interface more transparent and solving so that we can convert different units in parallel and perform mathematical operations with them.

The portal knows that the new version of the Calculator runs under the code name GrayParrot, which refers to the gray parrot, which is famous for its intelligence and cognitive abilities, which is considered outstanding in the animal world. With the improvements, the people of Cupertino may aim to compete with calculators from third-party developers, drawing heavily from Calcbot, which previously won the Apple Editor’s Choice Award.

The AppleInsider however, he points out that until the release of macOS 15, Apple may even dance back with the plans, so for now there is no guarantee that the Calculator will really receive a large-scale facelift. In any case, the 2024 developer conference will take place between June 10 and 14, so that’s the earliest we can get official information on the matter.
