As it turns out, doctors may be the most appreciative users of Apple’s expensive AR/VR gadget.

Back in February, Apple launched the $3,500 Vision Pro headset, which, in exchange for its hefty price tag, tries to excel in operations related to virtual and augmented reality with solutions representing the current state-of-the-art technology. Although the tests that accompanied the launch almost unanimously praised the capabilities of the device, overall, many had the impression that it is difficult to say for the time being where the product can fit into our everyday lives.

Since then, however, it seems that medical professionals and not rich hipsters may be the most enthusiastic users of the Vision Pro, as the headset seems to perform excellently as a surgical aid.

THE 9to5Mac Brazilian media reported that the doctor of the Jaraguá Hospital, Bruno Gobbato, recently performed a successful arthroscopic procedure with the help of Vision Pro on a patient who suffered a rotator cuff tear. Arthroscopy is an invasive procedure with minimal injuries, when optics connected to a monitor and a special biting device are introduced into the patient’s body through three small holes.

The Apple Vision Pro comes into play when Dr. Gobbato used it instead of a monitor, as the expensive apple headset could follow the image sent by the optics on a screen-sized, high-resolution simulated display, and also show the patient’s examination materials and the 3D models required for the operation in real time. . And we can also admire all of this, because the doctor also shot a film about the intervention.

Gobbato also praised the dynamic range of the Vision Pro’s cameras. According to him, a serious obstacle to the use of headsets in surgery is that, apart from the areas illuminated by the bright lights necessary for interventions, they can show everything else dark, but the sensors used by Apple do not suffer from this phenomenon.

The Brazilian doctor is not the only client in a white coat who is satisfied with the device: a 9to5Mac According to the British neurosurgeon who performed it, the Vision Pro has already been used during a spine operation, and the applications developed for visionOS can completely change their work. In the future, we can even read more similar stories, all the more so since the apple headset is currently only available in the USA, so it can later reach many more places than before.
