Small, 3-liter desktop PC on Mini-ITX bases from Gigabyte’s workshop, with RYZEN 8000G series APU units – iPon

--

Gigabyte’s Aorus division presented a new product in the form of the Metal Gear Plus ITX, boasting a very compact housing with a space capacity of only 3 liters.

The silver-colored computer case is CNC machined and creates a feeling of premium quality, but inside it is not a mobile processor, as in the majority of compact desktop configurations, but a RYZEN 8000G series APU unit that fits into a Socket AM5 processor socket. This is also good news because this way the processor can be replaced, in fact, the Mini-ITX format motherboard can also be replaced later on, and there is no need to worry about So-DIMM memory modules either, the product uses desktop DDR5 memory modules.

In terms of basics, we are dealing with a Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA type motherboard, which also comes with a low-profile processor cooler, but the power supply was not solved with an internal power supply, but with an internal voltage converter module and an external power adapter. This is also interesting because some of the compact desktop PCs now use a USB-C based power supply, but those models typically also use a central unit with lower consumption, not a 65 W desktop APU unit, so they may also be lagging behind in terms of performance. compared to the protagonist of our news.

The new systems come with Wi-Fi 6 support and use a 180 W external power adapter, in terms of data storage they rely on 512 GB or 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD cards, while the system memory is 16 GB XPG D300 model takes a seat on their deck. Three types of desktop APUs can play the role of the central unit.

The peak is represented by the AMD RYZEN 7 8700G with its 8 cores and 16 threads and its maximum boost clock of 5.1 GHz. This model has a Radeon 780M iGPU. One level lower is the RYZEN 5 8600G, which has 6 processor cores, 12 threads, a 5 GHz boost clock, and a Radeon 760M iGPU. The entry-level version contains only one RYZEN 5 8500G type APU, which, in addition to ZEN 4, also has ZEN 4c type processor cores. The APU working with 6 cores and 12 threads can use a maximum boost clock signal of 5 GHz and is available to users with a Radeon 740M type iGPU.

The RYZEN 7 8700G-based system is priced at $811 and $909, the RYZEN 5 8600G-based system is $660 and $740, while the RYZEN 5 8500G-based version is available at $618 and $693, depending on how much storage you ask for the particular model.

The new system can theoretically be compatible with the upcoming RYZEN 9000 series processors, or more precisely with APU units, as long as they can also work with a TDP frame of 65 W or less. In theory, members of the RYZEN 7000 series could also be considered due to the Socket AM5 processor socket, but those models could not be served in terms of cooling or power supply.

Gigabyte’s novelty has so far only appeared in China, but later it may try its luck in other regions as well.
