The International Automobile Federation (FIA), the F1 management (Formula One Management – FOM), and the Formula 1 Committee consisting of team representatives met on April 25, i.e. Thursday.

The most important and most interesting topic was the possible modification of the F1 points system, since, as we reported earlier, the management of the sport suggested that the points-scoring positions would be extended up to 12th place.

The committee eventually postponed a decision on the 2025 rollout, indicating that it would discuss the issue more thoroughly before making a final decision in July.

By the way, FOM proposed the change because this year the gap between the top five and the second half of the field has become even bigger, i.e. if Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin and Mercedes complete a smooth race, the others get nothing. By the way, the FIA would also benefit from the expansion of the points collection, since the entry fees of the competitors and teams are largely calculated from the points earned in the previous year.

The committee agreed that new rear-facing cameras will be installed on the cars starting at the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of June – they are mainly intended to improve the quality of the broadcasts, this decision still needs to be approved by the FIA Motorsport World Council at its meeting on June 11, but it has already it will just be a formality.

At the meeting of the Formula 1 Committee, there was also the question of changing the location of the pre-season test, but they have decided on the matter for now. On the last two occasions, before the start of the 2023 and this year’s championships, the teams held a three-day test each at the season-opening venue in Bahrain, but the 2025 season will begin with the Australian Grand Prix.
