O’Sullivan, who practically never praises himself, gave probably the most optimistic interview of his life.

This time, however, even this fit into his mood:

“I played well, I hit the balls well. I’m extremely strong mentally. To be honest, I’ve been playing snooker for the last two years. I know I’ve won tournaments because that’s just who I am, I know how to win. I’m blessed with that quality. But the ejection didn’t go very well, which really annoyed me, so I started working with Nic Barrow, who knows all the details of my game.

Nic used to work a lot with Frank Adamson, who unfortunately is no longer with us, but he was a fantastic trainer. I realized that I can no longer be my own coach, and as a result of this joint work, the game has gone better on the practice table in the last few weeks than at any time in the last six or seven years.

I’m not kidding when I say the game didn’t go well. I know that some people think I’m not telling the truth, but I’m not a liar, I think most people already know that about me.

I say what I think, I don’t mind if it makes me vulnerable. I have enough self-confidence, I know what I’m capable of.

I just need to find my best game. At 48, I’m still getting good results. I don’t know what is possible in this game. How long can I perform well? Will I still be able to win a world championship at the age of fifty? Who knows? I’m probably the only player who can do it, so we’ll see.

My career could not have been more amazing. How many of you can say that you are the most successful at what you do? I should pat myself on the back, but I tend to be more critical of myself. In fact, no one has had as much success in snooker as I have.

If I had been able to concentrate during my entire career, I could have won ten or even 21 world championship titles, who knows.

But it’s not over yet, we’ll see what else comes together. The most important thing for me is to enjoy the game.”
