Paks can produce the biggest collapse of all time

Fehérvár, who started the season with three defeats, had three consecutive matches without points between the 22nd and 24th rounds, but they have kept their place on the podium since the 15th round and moved up to second place in the table last weekend.

Bartosz Grzelak’s team has the same 15-5-9 record as Paks, and like them, they no longer clash with Ferencváros or Puskás Academy.

On Sunday, the Székesfehérvár players will play at the home of Kisvárda, where with a win they can permanently eliminate their rivals to the second division, followed by three rivals. And in case of scoring points against MTK and Debrecen, it is also possible that in the last round, they can end the season with the certainty of the silver medal at Vidi’s home ground, against Diósgyőr.

The Puskás Academy “gets” its opponents from Fehérvár, so it is no coincidence that the trio of Kisvárda-MTK-Debrecen will also clash with Zsolt Hornyák’s team. Apart from them, on Friday night, the opponent will be Zalaegerszeg, who would ensure their stay with a win, but the top-of-the-table Felscúti team tuned in to the meeting after knocking out Paks, so it won’t be easy for the Zala team.

Puskás Akadémia was pushed out of the OTP Bank League medal positions after three podium places last year,

but if the good form lasts and one of the duo in front of them is uncertain, then the team can return to the podium after the fourth position of the previous year.

It doesn’t seem too bold to say that the remaining three teams have at most a mathematical chance for the podium, and in addition, all three may lose it completely in the weekend round. MTK, DVSC and DVTK will also clash with Fradi and Fehérvár, and each of them should deliver an almost perfect performance to win a medal, but maybe even to win a place in the European Cup. But

the fourth position is already a much more realistic possibility for the trio, because it is only worth starting the Conference League qualifiers if Paks wins the Hungarian Cup, but even so, the Tolna team finish further back than the fourth place.

MTK is waiting for this fight from the most favorable position in the current 5-7. of the places, since he starts with a points advantage and even clashes with Mezőkövesd. Therefore, the winner of the MTK-Puskás Academy match on the weekend of May 11-12 has a good chance of preparing for a European Cup match at the end of the summer.

Considering the future opponents, Paks seems to be the most likely to win this year’s NB I silver medal, but in terms of form, György Bognár’s team will have to fight hard even for the eventual podium, and if appropriate, they may even miss out on the international cup if they continue their terrible streak. Of course, in a few weeks we may already be talking about the most successful season in the history of Paks after a Hungarian Cup trophy, a NB I second place and a club history points record. But at the moment, the fans in Székesfehérvár and Felcsút can rightfully trust in the medal, and even more so in the European Cup start, even more than in Paks.
