RTL acquired the so-called “A” type of soccer broadcasting rights from UEFA. This segment also includes the most prestigious European football series, the Champions League.

In contrast to RTL, the Hungarian public media for all Hungarian citizens in the last nearly 10 years

for free, provided the most prestigious European cup series on its channels throughout the country.

However, this period has now been closed by money and commercial considerations. According to previous reports, RTL raised the broadcast fee of BL to such an extent that the public media, which manages itself responsibly with Hungarian taxpayers’ money, can no longer compete with it.

According to media analysts, RTL, whose viewership is decreasing, wants to improve its lost market position and viewership by quasi-“snapping the viewers”.

Of course, all matches of the Hungarian national football team will continue to be shown on M4 Sport, the most watched and favorite Hungarian sports channel available for free.
