There have been rumors for quite some time that Adrian Newey may end his long Red Bull career, but there has never been such a serious “avalanche” on the topic as it did on Thursday afternoon. First, the German Auto Motor und Sport wrote in its latest article that the legendary designer is on the verge of leaving the current title-defending team.
Several reliable sources later reported that their own sources had received similar information about Newey’s intentions. The BBC, Autosport, Motorsport and the Dutch RacingNews365 also wrote about it, i.e., more reliable magazines.
As for the reasons, sources all point to the famously apolitical Newey’s displeasure with power struggles within Red Bull, as well as team principal Christian Horner’s weeks-long scandal. There is no consensus on when the specialist can leave: according to some, he may have the opportunity to do so as early as the end of 2024, while others believe that he will not be able to do so before the end of 2025.

Sky Sports has also contacted Red Bull. Their reporter, Craig Slater, indicated that he communicated through official channels with the bulls, who indicated that they did not know about Newey’s intention to leave, as well as that he had already informed the management that he wanted to end the joint work.
Regarding Newey’s contract, Slater informed the audience that it is likely to be valid until the end of 2025 and contains a clause stating that he will have to spend a year on “gardening leave” after his departure, meaning that he cannot officially join any team before January 2027.
There are also rumors about where the legendary engineer can continue. It was stated in the article of Auto Motor und Sport that he wants to work more, and in F1, and the most likely thing is that he can transfer to Ferrari.
Autosport was already more cautious, they noted that, according to previous press reports, Newey received a serious offer from Aston Martin. It is true, the team leader of the Greens recently denied that they want to confirm the specialist, saying that they are satisfied with their staff. The newspaper writes about the contract and gardening leave, that they “form the basis of further negotiations.”
