In the past few days, both the Dutch and English media reported that the management of Liverpool selected Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as Jürgen Klopp’s successor. According to the captain of the Liverpool team, the Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, his compatriot is currently one of the best coaches in his country and would be an ideal solution for the coaching position.
Slot has been in charge of the Rotterdam club since 2021, with which he reached the Conference League final in 2022, won the Eredivisie a year later, and the Dutch Cup this season. In the current Dutch championship, he is in second place and will certainly finish with a silver medal.
After Wednesday’s surprise defeat to Everton, Van Dijk said he thought Slot’s style would fit in well with what he was used to at Anfield Road.
It’s hard for me to answer this right now, but Arne Slot is probably one of the best Dutch coaches at the moment. His team’s play and his philosophy would make him suitable for the Liverpool position. But of course this is just my opinion based on what I read and hear.
Liverpool remain second in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Arsenal, but third-placed Manchester City have played two games less, meaning they are ahead of both their rivals in terms of points dropped.
