Press: Newey is ready to leave Red Bull

--

According to German press reports, Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull is imminent, which the team may officially announce soon. According to Auto Motor und Sport, it is most likely that the renowned designer will continue at Ferrari.

Having designed world champion cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, Adrian Newey entered his name as one of the most successful engineers in the history of F1, who was accordingly in high demand on the “professional market”. Opponents are almost constantly trying to lure him away from Red Bull, where he has been working since 2006, although in recent years he has been more and more in the background.

Speculations about his future in the first half of 2024 were even stronger than usual, as the apolitical Newey is reportedly having a hard time with the scandal surrounding the Red Bull team manager, Christian Horner, and the alleged power struggles.

The most concrete news of the past period was now delivered by Auto Motor und Sport: the German magazine, which is considered a reliable source, wrote on Thursday afternoon that the next big transfer bomb could be coming, as Newey’s departure is imminent. According to their article, the team will soon confirm this.

They also know that Newey is dissatisfied with the “situation within the team” and power struggles and does not want to be fully “forced” into the hypercar project (the bulls’ own sports car is being made under the code RB17).

When Newey can leave is still in question, as his contract expires at the end of 2025, and he is supposed to see the RB17 project through as well. However, according to the latest news, he can leave at the end of the 2024 season. Another good question is where the star designer can certify. According to Auto Motor und Sport, he is most likely to continue at Ferrari.

It was previously reported that Aston Martin is also interested in him, but this was denied by the team, while Mercedes is “inactive” in the Newey case. However, according to the news, he has negotiated several times with Ferrari: he was recently seen at the Bologna airport.

In the past, distance was one of the most serious arguments against Ferrari for Newey, but in recent years he has also worked remotely for Red Bull from his “second home”, South Africa. And Ferrari has already indicated to him that they do not expect him to move to Italy, as modern technology makes remote work impossible for him as well.
