There are more and more dissatisfied voices regarding the location of the World Snooker Championship, but Hossein Vafaei may have overshot the target.
The World Snooker Championship has been held in Sheffield at the Crucible Theater since 1977. In recent years, several criticisms have been made about the location, according to which the World Cup has simply outgrown its current location.
Before this year’s World Cup, the biggest star of the sport, Ronnie O’Sullivan, said that while in China and Saudi Arabia they carry the players on their palms, in Sheffield you can’t park normally, and in the best case, if you’re lucky, some tea and lasagna gets to the players.
He formulated an even sharper criticism Hossein Vafaeiwho simply called the venue of the World Cup stinky.
“Can I be honest? How do I enjoy being here? History is important, but no one invests money in this historical site. You want to play in nice places, but the Crucible really stinks. Everything is bad.
In other countries, everything glitters and flashes, they treat us completely differently. If someone asks if I want to come back here, I say no!”
Vafaei said this after he was easily eliminated in the first round against Judd Trump. What he received after his statement, he probably won’t put it on display, a lot of people joined in, calling it disrespectful.
Shaun Murphy former world champion “almost sacrilege” called the criticism. John Higgins multiple world champion says snooker is about to change but for him the Crucible is the best venue.
Former player, now TV expert Alan McManus he talked about the fact that the players do not come to the World Cup to smell the roses:
“It’s nonsense that the venue stinks, there’s nothing wrong with the Crucible. You come here to play, not to smell the roses. If you want to be a star – he’s not at the moment – then go win some tournaments and then you can talk. Even then, you can’t say such things.”
The multiple World Cup finalist, currently also working as an expert Jimmy White and called Vafaei’s statement simply pathetic:
“If he had won, would he still have said that? Pathetic, lost, failed. Who cares?”
