Xavi has changed his mind, he will remain the head coach of the FC Barcelona football team for the next season. The Catalan club confirmed to the Spanish news agency on Wednesday that the 44-year-old coach will still fulfill his contract until the summer of 2025, MTI reports.

The Barcelona manager announced at the end of January, after the home defeat by Villarreal, that he would leave the club at the end of the season. “I would like to announce that as of June 30, I will no longer be coaching Barca. I think the club needs a change, and as a Barcelona supporter, I can’t stand in the way of that,” said Xavi.

Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have been trying to convince the manager to stay in recent months. On Wednesday, they negotiated at the club president’s house, where an agreement was reached.

The Barcelona legend took over the management of the team in November 2021, after Ronald Koeman. In his first full season, he won the league title and the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona, but his season this year did not go so well. With six rounds to go before the end of the season, they are 11 points behind Real Madrid, and they were eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals.
