Ten Hag: It’s a shame what the media did after the FA Cup semi-final

Erik ten Hag has hit back at the media for their “disappointing” reaction to Manchester United’s nuanced FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City, calling some of their behavior “disgraceful”.

The fate of the Red Devils was only a hair’s breadth away and in the end they reached the final of the world’s oldest cup series through a penalty shootout. twice in extra time of fifteen minutes, they withdrew their seemingly winning goal.

Ten Hag immediately defended his team’s production after the blowout, stating that he was “not disappointed” due to the nature of their victory, and on Tuesday he reaffirmed his faith in them.

“No, I can’t understand the media reaction at all,” he began.

“You ask, ‘Was the performance disappointing?’ No, your reaction was disappointing.”

Among others, former United captain Roy Keane also criticized the performance of Ten Hag’s team, claiming that the reason his former club was unable to close the match from the position it had achieved was because it lacked any “leadership and character”.

Sky Sports experts, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, have also shared their not-so-bright opinion about Manchester on several occasions during the season, and according to the former Liverpool legend, Ten Hag has “no way back” after Sunday’s result.

Although he did not name anyone, Ten Hag responded to these events in this way:

“In top football, everything is about results. We made it to the final, which we deserved. Not only in that match, but also in the other matches leading up to this point. We had the events completely under our control for the last 20 minutes, and we were also unlucky. “

“In the end, we were lucky with the penalties, but we made it to the final, which is a huge result. To achieve this twice in two years is amazing. For me, as a manager, this will be the fourth cup final in four years.”

“So these opinions are shameful.”

The final against Coventry City was one of the most controversial and criticized when Antony berated the Championship club’s players with his hands to his ears after Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning penalty in the penalty shootout.

Ten Hag accepts that Antony made a mistake, but claims that he was provoked beforehand.

“It was a reaction. The cameras didn’t show the provocation, only the reaction. But regardless, he shouldn’t have done it that way,” added the Dutch manager.

“I saw Harry Maguire and the others go to them immediately after the whistle, and we really have to pay tribute to how far Coventry have come… and what kind of translation they have produced. But we also know that for 70 minutes in total we dominated and had a lot of chances.”

“We should have closed the game at 3-0, but our opponent got back into the game very well.”
