Marco Rossi received great news: the dream of several national team players can come true

Marco Rossi and L’Équipe also announced great news for the footballers applying for the European Championship squad of the Hungarian national football team. According to the information of the French sports newspaper, the European Union (UEFA) National Team Tournaments Committee – after a long discussion, with a small majority – voted that instead of the planned 23, the federation captains can nominate teams of 26 people for the competition in Germany.

However, the French football president who leads the board, Philippe Diallo he favored the narrower solution, the one conducting his national team Didier Deschamps because of his position. Against the former world-class midfielder, the Dutch captain, among others, lobbied in favor of increasing the number of players. Ronald Koeman, the English specialist Gareth Southgate and leading the Austrians Ralf Rangnick. From the host Germans Julian Nagelsmann would be equivalent to solution 23, but rather one proposes a simple, win-win solution.

In the coming days, the UEFA executive committee will have the final say. Change is almost certain now, isn’t it? even an intermediate solution (staff of 25 people) can be worked out from the discussion.

Of course, Rossi will definitely have to make difficult decisions, but his job can be much easier if he should leave two or three fewer players at home among those who have a chance to join the squad. Our Italian-Hungarian head coach invited 25 players to the preparatory matches in March (1-0 against Turkey and 2-0 against Kosovo) Dominik Szoboszlai to his team built around him.

In addition, Rossi already indicated in his first announcement of the 2024 squad: the door is open for those who will be left out this time, among others Endre Botka and Attila Fiola before, as well as for the position of the number three goalkeeper – next to Tóth – there is a chance that Paks will apply Péter Sappanos. In other words, even with the number of 26 people, there will be those (especially if someone else convinces our national team captain in the next few weeks) who had a good chance of being able to participate in the European Championship, but will still be left behind.

The deadline for announcing the EC frameworks is June 7, the tournament starts a week later.

The Hungarian national team, which is now undefeated in 14 games, will play two more preparatory games until then: on June 4, they will play in Ireland, and on June 8, the Rossi team will hold the main test against Israel in Debrecen.
