Instead of outstanding results, balanced performance would be better rewarded by the planned new F1 points system, which can be introduced from the 2025 season.

During the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix, rumors spread that F1 would introduce a new points system starting next season, according to which 12 drivers would receive points in each race instead of the current 10, in such a way that the first seven places would remain unchanged, the 8th. however, instead of the current 4, he would receive 5 points, and from then on, the obtainable quantity would decrease one by one until the 12th position.

The change found positive responses among those interviewed, and since the support of six out of ten teams is enough for this, the votes of the current five “weaker” stables, as well as RB’s mother team, Red Bull, have a good chance of having the necessary majority to make it possible for 2025 introduce the amendment.

The first 9 places in the current table would not be significantly affected by this change (of course there would be a few points more for some players), so starting from 10th place, we will show how each driver stands in the current system, and what changes the new points system would mean , if this were already in effect:

Pierre Gasly, Valtteri Bottas and Logan Sargeant would also have 0 points in the reformed system.

The change can be observed primarily in the result of Nico Hülkenberg: the new system would reward balance much more than the current one in the case of the members of the midfield and the lower house, while in the case of the current one, an outlier result counts more. With the exception of one point, Stroll and Tsunoda owe their current results to their 6th and 7th positions in Australia, while Hülkenberg finished in the points scoring position more than both of them, three out of five times this year.

As for the teams, thanks to Esteban Ocon’s 11th place in China, no one would be without points in the new system – and here the value of Haas’ balanced performance is even more spectacular:

And finally, let’s take a look at how the championship would stand according to the 10-6-4-3-2-1 system that many people lament – here you can clearly see why this point system would be unsuitable for use in today’s conditions of F1, since due to the few eliminations, a significant part of the field would practically have no chance to score points.

In the latter calculation, the fastest laps and the sprint were not taken into account, as they cannot be included in the points system between 1991 and 2002.
