A few weeks ago, the news circulated in the pit lane that Daniel Ricciardo’s days in Formula 1 were numbered. The 34-year-old driver got a seat during the last season, because Nyck de Vries was replaced by Alpha Tauri (now RB), and it could easily happen that he too will soon meet the same fate. So far this year, he has collected zero points, while his teammate Juki Cunoda has seven.

Ricciardo the idiot?

Ricciardo had a chance to score his first points in China on Sunday. He waited for the restart from ninth place at the halfway point, but Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) ran into him from behind, the floor plate of the RB was damaged, and after some time the Australian driver gave up the race.

Afterwards, he faced Stroll calling him an idiot for their collision. Of course, the otherwise always smiling Ricciardo didn’t let this go without a word either, not least because he wasn’t the one to blame.

“I was just starting to calm down when I heard what Lance had to say about what happened.” I’m supposed to be an idiot and I was at fault for the collision. After that, my brain water boiled over, because it is clear what happened, moreover, the whole thing was preceded by a safety car section – explained the RB driver. – According to his on-board camera, he was not looking at me, but at the corner, even though the drivers have only one job to watch the car in front of them. I’m trying to hold myself back, but b…fuck that guy! And I was still delicious. I won’t escalate this anymore, because maybe he will take responsibility for what happened. If not, I can’t help it.

Well, according to Stroll, who is racing for his father’s team, he was not at fault, even if he received a ten-second penalty for causing the accident. And in retrospect, he says that Ricciardo wasn’t the culprit.

“I don’t think it was his fault.” Everyone hit the brakes and he was right in front of me. Because of the accident, I was punished because I ran into him, but I didn’t just run into him, as we collided under strange circumstances. I think I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, he added apologetically.

By the way, Ricciardo did not escape the Chinese Grand Prix without reprimand either. He received three correct start penalties for the next race, Miami, because he overtook during the safety car section.
