Sweden and Finland were also eliminated from the Ice Hockey World Cup.
In a big surprise, Latvia advanced to the semi-finals of the Ice Hockey World Cup on Thursday after beating Sweden 3-1.
The Swedes mobilized an enormous force to shoot the goal, but despite shooting 41 times, the puck landed in the net only once. The two teams won a third each, so they started the last twenty minutes with a score of 1-1, even though the match was one-sided. After six minutes, Latvia took the lead for the second time with a goal from a counterattack, and then set the final result with a man advantage in the middle of the game.
This was a historic feat by the Latvian national team, because
his best World Championship result so far was seventh place, which he has achieved three times, but he has never made it into the top four. In the semi-finals, he can win against Canada to reach the final.
With the Canadian team that defeated the defending champion Finnish team 4-1 at the same time as the Latvian game. At the meeting of the participants of last year’s final, he brought a great pace and balanced game in the first two thirds, but the Canadians scored in both periods against the Scandinavians. In the last third, even in the game, Canada outgrew its opponent and in the end achieved a confident success.
