The number of employed people was 4 million 746 thousand, the unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in March. In March 2024, the average number of employed persons aged 15-74 increased by 38,000 compared to the same period of the previous year, to 4,746,000. The number of unemployed was 217,000, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
In the period January-March 2024, the average number of employed persons among those aged 15-74 was 4,725,000, 29,000 more than a year earlier. The number of employed men did not change substantially, amounting to 2 million 480 thousand, while for women it increased by 41 thousand to 2 million 245 thousand. 4,553,000 people worked in the domestic primary labor market, 27,000 more than a year earlier. The number of people working abroad and public employees did not change significantly, the former amounted to 109 thousand, the latter to 63 thousand.
Among the 15-64-year-olds, the employment rate of 74.7 percent was essentially the same as a year earlier. The rate for men remained practically unchanged at 78.2 percent, while for women it increased by 1.1 percentage points to 71.1 percent.
In the period January-March 2024, the number of unemployed people aged 15-74 increased by 30 thousand to 229 thousand compared to the previous year, while the unemployment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 4.6 percent.
The KSH report also revealed that the unemployment rate was this high in January 2021.
The number of unemployed men was 126,000, their unemployment rate rose by 0.8 percentage points to 4.8 percent. The number of unemployed women was 103 thousand, and the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points to 4.4 percent.
