András Szabó: This final was a great promotion for amateur football! You could see in the match that we are basically an “old boys’ team” playing recreational soccer, and we come together every weekend to have fun, while Mezőörs is a team with more serious goals, which would also hold its place in NB III. We needed a bit of luck to win the cup, but we are very happy!
Roland Bohner: In the first half, we played with several technical errors, but we improved after the break, and in extra time we had three great opportunities to win the cup. I’m not disappointed because we lost on penalties, but because we should have decided the game in the one hundred and twenty minutes. From now on, we will focus on the championship, which we will try to win, and we will try to keep the core of the team in the summer. Hats off to our fans, they were fantastic!
SUMMARY
This year’s Amateur Cup final brought a battle of the routine, as among the starting teams in Budapest Union, Péter Czvitkovics is 41, the 95-time Hungarian national team player Roland Juhász is 40, Róbert Feczesin is 38, while senior Tibor Szabó is 47 (!) years old. In Mezőörs, goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi is 39, Viktor Vadász is 37, and András Debreceni is 35, while their senior, 46-year-old Gábor Vayer, only started the match on the substitutes’ bench. By the way, we could see several nice movements from the former elite football players – on both sides – although their speed has worn off and their strength has run out. MTK forward Krisztián Németh, who was born in Győr and has several acquaintances and friends among the players from Mezőörs (as well as the opponent), watched the final on the spot. It was also difficult to name Esélyes because both teams are in second place in their respective leagues (it is true that in the first division of the Győr-Moson-Sopron county, the newcomers Mezőörs played one game less than the leader Koroncó).
