In the country, 9,200 people consulted a doctor with flu-like symptoms and 132,800 with acute respiratory infection symptoms. Last week, the two figures were 9,800 and 129,100, respectively.

  • Acute respiratory infection: 47.5 percent of the patients were children aged 0-14, and 25.1 percent were young adults aged 15-34. 17.2 percent of them belonged to the 35-59 age group, and 10.2 percent to the over 60 age group.
  • The flu-like illness: 31.6 percent of the patients were children aged 0-14, and 33.5 percent were young adults aged 15-34. 24.4 percent of them belonged to the 35-59 age group, and 10.5 percent to the over 60 age group.

In the 16th week of 2024, the frequency of people visiting a doctor with flu symptoms increased in eight administrative areas, decreased in seven administrative areas, and remained unchanged in 5 administrative areas compared to the previous week. Diseases caused by the influenza virus, confirmed by laboratory tests, were diagnosed in three counties (Heves, Somogy and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg).

In the 16th calendar week in total 140 respiratory sample received from a patient to the National Influenza Reference Laboratory of the National Center for Public Health and Pharmaceuticals (NNGYK). The influenza positivity rate was 2.0 percent, the RSV positivity rate was 3.9 percent, and the HMPV positivity rate was 7.8 percent.

Of the 12 samples submitted by the sentinel hospitals, RSV was identified in four patients. Among the 26 respiratory samples received as part of the traditional diagnostic test, one influenza A(pdm09), one RSV, one adenovirus, three parainfluenza viruses, one rhinovirus, one bocavirus and one SARS-CoV-2 virus were positive.

Based on the data of the 24 hospitals designated as part of the respiratory monitoring service, in the sixteenth week, 72 people were admitted to the hospital due to severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), of which 7 people received intensive/subintensive care.
