Thanks to the changed university procedure, for the first time this year an oral interview can also be part of the procedure. The medical universities introduced this opportunity with gusto, so the Semmelweis University, the University of Pécs, the University of Szeged and the University of Debrecen also held a mandatory interview, reports Eduline.

The higher education institutions give a maximum of fifty points to the participants of the discussion, and all students were invited to the major that they indicated in the first place.

This is how it happened at Semmelweis University, where the oral admission of students was held on April 12-18. took place between The approximately 3,500 applicants had to prove themselves before 93 committees of the university’s five faculties.

Those applying for general medical training were required to bring a CV, a letter of motivation and a teacher’s recommendation, as well as watch 37 university training videos.

Even though the university’s website clearly stated what factors the committees examined during the interview, the admissions process did not take place without scandal after some committee members made scandalous statements towards the candidates, humiliating the young people who were considering a career in medicine.

A girl was humiliated because of her weight

One of the girls, who had been preparing to become a doctor since she was a child, told an incredible story. The young student received an appointment for April 15, and then carefully prepared for the admission: she watched the videos, wrote a resume and motivation letter, and also brought a teacher’s recommendation, which turned out to be unnecessary.

After his arrival, he handed in his resume, and after two hours of waiting, he got into the room where the conversation took place. According to his recollection, the committee members did not even introduce themselves, they immediately got into the middle of things.

As one of the male committee members was on the phone at the beginning of the conversation, another member asked him about his resume. However, when the man finished the call, the conversation took a rather strange turn. The older man asked which video he liked best.

Eduline quoted the student as saying.

Since the girl did not want to answer the humiliating question, she replied that she must be more than the 60 kilos mentioned earlier. To this, the man announced that it is a big problem that he is already overweight, but fortunately he does not look morbidly overweight yet.

However, based on the students’ feedback, other students also received personal comments during the Semmelweis admissions. In one of the graduation-related groups, the former VI. Tamás Palya, a mathematics and chemistry major who teaches at Ferenc Kölcsey High School in the district, published a post from which it was revealed that several students in her private lessons complained to her about Semmelweis’ oral admission.

In addition to waiting for several hours, there was a girl who was asked if she had a boyfriend, and another student, who was Muslim and came in a hijab, was asked about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

An investigation has been launched into the case

Semmelweis University launched an investigation against one of the exam chairpersons.

Eduline also contacted the institution, from which they received the answer that during the admission “complaints were received from two members of one of the committees due to the overly critical statements of the committee chairman”.

After an immediate investigation of the case, the results of the exam chairperson were excluded, and the admission score of the students concerned was determined by taking into account the opinions of the other two members. They added that there were no complaints in the case of the other 92 committees.
