Google’s Gemini application for Android will soon be able to display answers generated by artificial intelligence in real time. The feature was spotted by Android expert ‘AssembleDebug’, which shows an option to turn on ‘Real-time responses’ in the AI assistant’s settings.

Instead of waiting for a complete response, Gemini will respond during processing:

When you ask the chatbot a question while using the desktop version, Gemini “types” it and then answers it. However, Android users will have to wait for the fully processed response to be published. Although the procedure only takes a few seconds, a more perceptible experience can be achieved on mobile by gradually displaying the answer, especially in the case of longer texts.

Google announced Gemini for mobile in February as a standalone app for Android users. There’s no iOS app yet, but iPhone users can still use Gemini through the Google app. With Gemini text and image generation and integration with Google Assistant, Gemini is marketed as an AI assistant. Gemini’s launch was pretty shaky, including portraying Nazis as people of color. However, the company is making rapid progress with model developments and new functions.

This year was all about on-device artificial intelligence. Samsung has equipped its smartphones with Galaxy AI, a collection of artificial intelligence features such as wording, photo editing and translation. Apple is also rumored to be announcing generative AI features at this year’s WWDC — and reports of talks between the two tech giants could even make it possible with Google Gemini.
