The Győr-Szeged NB II match on Monday was won 1-0 by the people of Szeged, but the match has another winner: Nyíregyháza. The field is thickening behind Spartacus, who is at the top of the second division championship with 67 points five rounds before the end. Vasas, with 57 points, and Győr and Szeged, who have collected 54-54 points so far, are expected to fight a sharp battle for the second place, still promoted. The people of Nyíregyház can secure their return to NB I as early as April 29, in Ajka.
No one needs to be specially motivated
– We managed to develop a reassuring advantage, we lead the championship, but a three-way race for second place is starting to develop. Fortunately, we are looking forward to the final game from a good position, but we need a few more wins to close the issue of promotion. We want to win the championship, we are now in a good position for that. Our destiny is in our own hands, this is the most important thing – Nyíregyháza’s head coach Krisztián Tímár told Magyar Nemzet.
Before the change of class can be discussed, Nyíregyháza has an important match to play, which will host Fradit on Wednesday night (20:00, TV: M4 Sport) in the semi-finals of the Hungarian Cup in Balmazújváros.
– Anyone who follows Nyíregyháza’s matches this season can see that the team is extremely hungry for success, and it will be no different against Ferencváros. I don’t think anyone should be motivated in a cup semi-final against the best team in the country. We have nothing to lose, anything can happen in a match. We want to enter the field with a mentality that allows us to cause surprises – continued the 44-year-old Krisztián Tímár. – We have a stable base game that the team plays well throughout the season, we are trying to reach for it. Obviously, in the NB I and on the international stage, where Ferencváros appears year after year, the rhythm is faster, we are trying to adapt to this, but we are also trying to impose our own game on Ferencváros, we will see how successful it will be.
Varga and Marquinhos stand out from Fradi
Nyíregyháza bid farewell to Tiszaújváros, Dunaföldvár and Szentlőrinc earlier in the domestic cup series, after which they defeated top-ranked Kecskemét 2-1 in the top eight. After the 8-0 knockout of Nagyecsed, Fradi advanced against Puskás Akadémia in extra time, and after a penalty shootout at Debrecen’s home, and then beat Diósgyőr away 2-0 in the quarter-finals.
– Every team has key players, the Fradi complex is a good team, but Barna Varga and Marquinhos stand out from Ferencváros – explained Krisztián Tímár. – We have to pay attention to them, but there is also Zachariassen or Abu Fani, they are also key members of the champion team. We will have little room for error, we need to be at our best on Wednesday night, but I don’t think that will be a problem. This is the duel before which no one needs to be specially motivated.
The cup semi-final against Fradi can be special for the former defender, who also played for Plymouth in the English second division during his playing career, because between 2005 and 2006 he himself played football in the association that was disqualified from the top flight at the time.
– That was a very difficult period in the history of Ferencváros, as there was an unfair exclusion that we experienced. The unconscious unity that characterized the Fradi family at that time is the best thing that remains from that period – Tímár recalled his memories to our interest. – The fact that we played in front of full houses everywhere in the NB II was an uplifting feeling, it showed a sense of togetherness that was good to experience.
