And it’s not a shame that we couldn’t advance against Olympiakos, even more so when we look at the fact that they are playing in the semi-finals of the EKL, and Fiorentina, who were our group opponents and we never lost against them, are also playing in the semi-finals. We are going in the right direction, we have our goals and we will achieve them.
About Fradi’s biggest opponent of the season
– We knew that our fate was in our own hands. It’s okay that we just became champions, but there are still four rounds to go, and it’s safe to say without modesty that we could have secured the championship title even in that time. The fact that it happened now is the best.
Paks did not make us work. Paks had a good streak, which I’m very happy about, of course I’d be lying if I said they didn’t inspire us and keep us sharp that they were leading the league. There was the meeting against Paks, which we went into with a five-point lead, eight if we won and two if we lost, but this team is of such quality that we could have won the championship even in this case.
The current 15-point advantage is quite convincing, we already won the championship with 21 points, it would be nice to achieve this. Our biggest opponent was that, in addition to the league and Hungarian Cup matches, we played 16 international matches starting with the qualifiers, which took a toll on the players and staff. Of course, we always want to play this many games, even more if possible, but injuries can happen in such cases, it is not easy to mentally prepare for the fact that one day you are playing away against Fiorentina, and then a league game where there is not a large audience. There were many things that made it difficult, but I am proud that we are already champions.
About head coach Dejan Stankovic
– He has the same DNA as Fradi, a crazy person in a good sense, who is like us, we are never satisfied with what we have, we always want to move up, so we do everything and if necessary, we even go to the wall. He is also a Fradi character, he has got used to the team well, the players believe in him. He has a huge playing history, when he says something, it carries weight. He can manage the dressing room very well with the right rigor and the right humor.
About the most memorable matches
– Our 6-0 victory against Újpest was an important point, when we washed away a stain of shame from ourselves, and the other was the meeting in Florence, when we produced a 60 minutes that was also outstanding at the international level. It was a Fradi that you don’t see very often.

– This is a balanced squad, everyone played a big role in the success. Those who get the opportunity always put their heart and soul into it, they know exactly how big the competition is, and it’s hard to get into the starting lineup. We have a big squad, but such a big squad is presupposed by the fact that we have to play league and international cup matches as well. We currently have a squad that is outstanding at home, but also holds its own at the international level. In today’s soccer, it is not a reality that a team plays together for 2-3 years, there are comings and goings with much bigger teams as well. Football is not only a sport, but also a business. A player starts playing football in order to play in a top league, if an inquiry comes from there, it is obvious that he wants to go there and this does not mean that Fradi is a stepping stone, but that he wants to achieve the goals set in his own life. We have no moral basis to prevent this if it is financially profitable for the club.
This does not mean that we will not have a good framework, that is why we have a scouting department led by Tamás Hajnal, so that there is always an option for someone that is attractive to the club and the player, so that we can think about let’s let him go and replace him. We don’t want that much movement right now. Krisztián Lisztes will go to the Bundesliga in the summer, but there will surely be interest in other players as well. We do not despair, because we prepare all year long to have someone to turn to in such cases.
About the Hungarian Cup semi-final
– We really want to get to the final, as Dejan said, we have to look at the semi-final as if it were the last match of our lives, or as if it were a final. We have already been burned against lower class teams in the Hungarian Cup, everyone knows that MK is not a competition series where you can make mistakes, surprises are born here, anything can happen in a match. We have already seen an example abroad of a team that was considered a favorite getting burned against a team that was said to be weaker. I don’t think we have any feeling that it’s going to be an easy game. It will be a very difficult match, it is as important for Nyíregyháza as it is for us. They want to get to the finals, they want to make it difficult for us, and we are preparing to make it difficult for them.
