The statement on the official website of the Czech federation reads:
Although we are happy, together with the professional staff we decided before the match that we would not continue in the national team. I informed Petr Fousek, the president of the association, about this. Even then, the pressure was enormous, sometimes I didn’t even understand. This also contributed to our decision
The 62-year-old professional took over the management of the national team in 2018, since then he managed the national team in 56 matches – in terms of the matches played this places him in second place in his country’s all-time ranking -, of which he led the team to victory 26 times, 10 draws and 20 defeats suffered.
Among other things, he marched to the quarter-finals of the 2020 European Championship with the Czechs, and now he secured participation in Germany with the second place in Group E, with the same score as the first-placed Albanians.
The Czechs can prepare for their eighth continental competition without interruption, their best result being the silver medal in 1996.
