The release date of the production, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, has been set for March 20, 2026 in the Amazon MGM studio. In 2019, Lord and Miller received an Oscar as the creators of the animated film Spider-Man – Into the Spider-Verse.

The film duo is also working on the film version of Weir’s novel Artemis, set on the moon.

In addition to Lord and Miller, the producers of Project Hail Mary include Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling and Andy Weir.

In the story, Gosling plays a teacher-turned-astronaut who wakes up from a coma and finds himself alone on a space station with no memory of anything. However, he slowly pieces together that he was sent to Tau Ceti, 12 light years from Earth, to save Earth. To do this, you need to mobilize all your knowledge, and even this would not be enough if an unexpected help was not offered.

Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay from Weir’s 2021 novel. The author’s sci-fi film The Martian was also previously filmed: Matt Damon played the lead role in Ridley Scott’s Rescue Expedition.
