The PlayStation Showcases always excite gamers, because every few months Sony presents us with the biggest video game releases expected for the PlayStation consoles at these online presentations. The event held on May 24th was full of new things: we finally had a proper look at Alan Wake 2, we could once again admire Mirage, which returns to the basics of Assassin’s Creed, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 debuted in a gameplay trailer that was more than ten minutes long, which It promises to be a not-so-secret contender for Game of the Year and continues the events of Insomniac Games’ 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man and its 2020 spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
The new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 reveals a big thing in its first scene, one of its main villains, Kraven, the hunter who targets the Spider-Man, but other iconic bad guys will also appear in Insomniac’s new work, including Dr. Curt Connors, also known as the Lizard, and also the bloodthirsty Venom. What’s more, Peter Parker may also be among the “bad guys” to be defeated, at least this is indicated by the latest images shown below, in which the main character wears the mockery woven by the black symbiote.
In the new Spider-Man game, we can expect a Peter Parker in a much more aggressive, darker mood, roughly like in the 2007 movie starring Tobey Maguire. Since in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 we will apparently be able to take turns controlling the two web weavers, sometimes hiding in the skin of Miles Morales, it seems that we will have to defeat the original Spider with the kid from Brooklyn.
It’s almost touching how much Insomniac Games apparently slapped the web swing, which was also enjoyable in the previous part, one of, if not the best part of Marvel’s Spider-Man was when we could swing around New York, at a fast pace, flashing parkour moves to passers-by. All of this will return, only boosted, as we will have the opportunity to glide like marsupials. In addition, Miles Morales gets several new abilities, and Peter Parker, infected by Venom, will also show some never-before-seen tricks.
Overall, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 promises to be a more brutal, darker and even more dramatic comic book adaptation than its predecessor.
However, it is our great heartache that Peter Parker’s black dress looks a little too organic for our taste and falls off the screen. Hopefully they’ll do something more with this, if nothing else, with selectable skins. It is gratifying that they showed so much of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but it is also clear from the glitches that appear, that there is still room for improvement in the game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man will be released on PlayStation 5 sometime in the fall, we don’t know the exact date yet, but it can be expected in the height of September-October. Insomniac is not only dealing with this one Marvel adaptation, they also have Marvel’s Wolverine, which brings us Wolverine, one of the best-known heroes of the X-Men.
