Pensioners can count on the government of Hungary – this is what Minister of Finance Mihály Varga and Zsolt Nyitrai, the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor, said in a joint video shared on the Facebook page of the Chief Advisor on the occasion of the publication of Jókor magazine on Sunday.

Mihály Varga said: there is a war raging in the neighborhood and in the Middle East, the budget is under extraordinary burdens, yet pensioners can still count on the national government.

After last year’s 18.5 percent pension increase, we increased pensions by 6 percent at the beginning of this year, and in February we again paid the 13th monthly pension taken by the left, the minister said.

It is good news, he added, that the 6 percent increase at the beginning of the year also means an increase in the real value of pensions, as annual inflation is expected to be much lower than this.

The government therefore stands by its promise made in 2010: it will preserve the purchasing power of pensions and even increase it. “Since 2010, we have doubled the amount of pensions, and we have improved their real value by more than 20 percent. As long as Hungary has a national government, we will give pensioners the respect they deserve,” said Mihály Varga.

Zsolt Nyitrai said that “The citizens of Hungary owe our elderly compatriots a debt of gratitude. They created the sure foundations on which we can build. Their knowledge and wisdom are indispensable. We stand up for the interests of pensioners and protect their benefits,” said the prime minister’s chief adviser.

“In today’s times of war, it is even more important to keep our loved ones safe, which is why we launched the free Caring Hours program, which has saved more than 10,000 lives so far. Among other things, you can read about these in the latest issue of Jókor magazine,” he added.

Pensioners can still count on the Hungarian government, said Zsolt Nyitrai.
