The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service Southern Transdanubia Region will take over the maintenance of the Tolna nursing home from mid-summer.
In 2023, the Municipality of the city of Tolna contacted the South Transdanubian Region of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service with the aim of initiating negotiations regarding the transfer of the rights of maintenance of the Tolna Old People’s Home.
The 42-person, renovated institution is located in the downtown area of Tolna in a multi-storey, barrier-free building.

“The Maltese Charity Service has been working and helping in Szekszárd and its surroundings for more than 3 decades. Our volunteer group is in contact with more than 200 families and has been helping the population of the city and its surroundings for 31 years now”
– says Gergely Jónás, regional manager of the Southern Transdanubian Region of the Maltese Charity Service. From 2021, the Ezüstfenyő Idősek Otthona in Szekszárd will also be maintained by the Charity Service, where an active and very effective volunteer group operates.
There are many steps involved in taking over an old people’s home, several authorizations and administrative steps are still to be done, as a result of which it is expected that the institution may come under the care of the Maltese Charities from the first of July 2024.
“On April 24, the representative body of the Tolna Self-Government confirmed its intention in connection with the takeover and decided on the contracts to be concluded with the Maltese Charity Service.”
“We thought of contacting the Maltese Charity Service to maintain a home for the elderly, because we personally experienced that they help the socially needy and the elderly with reliable, high-quality work”

The agreement that has just been approved guarantees for 15 years that 42 places will always be available for the residents of Tolna to use nursing home placement.
