The ceremony was attended by Szeghalom’s honorary citizens and Pro Urbe awardees, heads of local institutions, Szeghalom doctors, major employers and business leaders, dr. Member of Parliament József Kovács, representatives of the Szeghalom municipality, but a delegation from Szeghalom’s sister settlement, Kalotaszentkirály, also came to the event.
Mayor József Macsári recalled in his speech: 40 years ago, on January 28, 1984, council president Sándor Kozák received the document granting the city title in a ceremonial setting in the main hall of the youth center. The significant anniversary is an opportunity to take stock and set new goals for yourself. In such cases, they can also thank those who once did something for the city: for the home, for the homeland.
The city address brought many developments
He said: in order for the city to develop, many modernizations began in 1985. Since then, they have been working on the introduction of piped gas and the exploration of the healthy drinking water base. These were all innovations that created better living conditions. The city status brought with it the construction of roads and sidewalks: the number of asphalted roads increased, bicycle paths were created, and the length of sidewalks also increased year by year.
In the 1990s, the city administration focused on the renovation of institutions. As an example, he cited the library, the school, the home for the elderly, and the city court building, which are indispensable institutions of the city to this day.
They create a livable, lovable city
József Macsári said: since 2002, i.e. his first election as mayor, they have continued on this path and have tried to serve development, to shape the settlement into a livable and lovable city. They strove to preserve and renovate the existing values of Szeghalom, as well as to create more. He emphasized that the many actions and dedication of the invited guests were necessary for the past, present and future to be beautiful and rich, be it the economy, industry, education, healthcare or culture.
Such investments are being launched
He talked about both the present and the near future. The Várhely camp is being developed in order to create a suitable tourist center in the heart of Sárrét. Inland roads are being repaired in 14 sections. The development of rainwater drainage systems is being completed. The municipal buildings are being modernized from an energetic point of view, and at the end of the project, 500 solar panels will help the efficient operation. A leisure park will be created next to the Szeleskert main collector. The basic health care building will also be renovated. He emphasized that Szeghalom will become more beautiful and livable thanks to the investments.
