Once again, the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired won the grant that can be obtained through the “Elementary rehabilitation service for visually impaired persons” tender. The good news was announced by Attila Fülöp, the State Secretary responsible for care at the Ministry of the Interior, at the Friday press conference held on the spot.

Since the first of October 2017, the association has been providing basic rehabilitation services in the North Great Plains region, primarily in Szolnok – said the president Zoltánné Pesti at the event, from whom we also learned that last year they were able to provide assistance to 52 visually impaired people, employing them for a total of 2,802 hours.

“Szolnok is an attentive and caring city”

At the event, Dr. Parliament member Mária Kállai also praised the organization’s activities, and mayor Ferenc Szalay also spoke about how they can cooperate with the association, including making new facilities barrier-free.

– Szolnok can be said to be an attentive and caring city – emphasized State Secretary Attila Fülöp. He also recalled that Zoltánné Pesti received recognition on social work day in 2022, which was obviously addressed to her team as well.

The vision rehabilitation service can continue

As he said, elementary vision rehabilitation services continue in our country, there are winners. The legal security for this was laid down three years ago by the parliament, with civil organizations, with a bottom-up initiative, so to speak, taking into account field experiences.

– In the previous year, more than a thousand people used the rehabilitation service nationwide, for more than 53 thousand hours. The government’s goal is for people with disabilities to be able to get to work and to be able to create value commensurate with their abilities, but for this it is essential that we develop the services that enable them to be barrier-free and to fully experience everyday life, emphasized the state secretary.

Oliver was happy to take caresses

The center in Szolnok, which operates under the management of the professional manager Zsuzsanna Nagy, offers a variety of help to people over the age of 16 to get by in everyday life and re-engage in work, who lost their benefits as adults. The guests got to know the work going on there, the rehabilitation team.

Ágota Lukács’s guide dog named Olivér immediately stole into the hearts of the visitors. The friendly labrador – since he was not “on duty” at the moment – took the caresses with pleasure.
