The Wizz Air flight from Abu Dhabi and Dubai has been changing crew at Larnaca airport in Cyprus for several days.

The Wizz Air flight from Abu Dhabi and Dubai has been stopping at Larnaca airport in Cyprus for days to refuel and change crew, Utazómajom writes, adding that the flights departing from Budapest do not avoid Iraqi airspace, only the ones going back.

Passengers who spoke to the newspaper on Monday claimed that they were told that there would not be enough kerosene to fly home due to the strong headwind, so they had to land in Cyprus.

Wizz Air responded to the newspaper’s inquiry with a statement. In it they wrote:

“In order for Wizz Air to be able to maintain its safe operation even in a war situation affecting the Middle East region, some flights fly on a different route than usual. As a result, the flight time of some routes may increase. Due to the increased journey time, in some cases, such as some flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the aircraft must stop in Larnaca, where fresh, rested crew take over, due to strict crew working hours. Of course, the airline will inform the affected passengers in advance about the necessary detour and the increased travel time. For Wizz Air, the safety of its passengers, crew and aircraft remains the most important thing.”
