At the beginning of April, the 44th International Military Observers’ Course (IMOC) began at the MH Peace Support Training Center in Szolnok, with the participation of students from eighteen nations. Seventeen of the twenty-five participants of the three-week course came from abroad: Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Ecuador, Egypt, Italy, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Serbia, Slovakia, Tanzania, and the United States delegated students, while in terms of the Hungarian trainees, seven soldiers and one policeman took part in the course.

The students also performed an aerial reconnaissance exercise flying on the rotorcraft of the MH József Kiss 86th Helicopter Brigade in Szolnok.

In addition to the instructors from Croatia, Germany, Greece, Kazakhstan and Serbia, the students’ activities were monitored by five Hungarian active duty and volunteer operational reserve officers, officers and non-commissioned officers who had served on numerous missions.

After the theoretical training, the participants carried out an aerial reconnaissance exercise on April 23, taking off in the rotorcraft of the MH József Kiss 86th Helicopter Brigade in Szolnok: they took a bird’s-eye view of the RepTár aviation museum in Szolnok and the military equipment displayed there, and then − according to the fictitious situation − the surrounding near settlements, they observed flood damage, demonstrations, military convoy movements and assessed the condition of bridges.

They had to deal with an accident

During the final exercise at the MH BTKK on April 24, the students – following an organized set of tasks – collected information during a negotiation with a local mayor. They had to deal with a conflict surrounding a “refugee camp” and also dealt with an accident.

Part of the training was also that they carried out patrol tasks in the operational area, during which they had to cope in various situations based on the UN guidelines. Based on the air patrol and local information, an inspection was carried out at the aviation museum. During the vehicle patrol, the events taking place in the operational area were checked, and then a short aerial reconnaissance was carried out in order to clarify a new, unexpected event.

At the end of the course, the students who successfully completed the course received their diplomas on Friday, which gave them the opportunity to participate in military observer missions led by the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the European Union and other international organizations, or in the framework of other peace support operations abroad. to serve.
