Imre Rácz also spoke about the importance of the Magyarok Kenyere program. According to him, Hungarian farmers share the fruits of their labor with their compatriots in need, they do so in the spirit of solidarity, a sense of Hungarianness and togetherness.

“That’s why, for the success of the annual uninterrupted work, for the good wheat harvest, we are asking for the blessing of the representatives of the churches present today,” said Imre Rácz, who also revived the history of the initiative.
The program started in 2010, and within two years, grain had already arrived from 130 locations, and in 2013, the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy joined the “Bread of Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat” initiative. At that time, domestic farmers already sent wheat from nearly 400 settlements, and approximately 100 tons were collected. In 2023, the amount of wheat collected exceeded 1,100 tons, collected by 4,500 Hungarian farmers. Imre Rácz also spoke about the figures of the county collection. According to this, almost 54,000 kilograms of wheat were collected in 2023, which was offered by 165 donors from 50 settlements.

– I would ask the farmers of the county to join the program as many as possible this year as well – Imre Rácz concluded his speech.
Dr. András Polgári, the director general of the county government office, drew attention to the importance of daily bread, which is also mentioned in a central place in our main church prayer. He emphasized that Hungarian farmers face the elements and the weather every single day, and thereby strengthen national maturity.
– With their work, they set an example for society and the members of the next generation, while also enduring external pressure. Hungarians are not separated by any borders, we can count on each other, the Magyarok Kenyere program is a clear proof of this – said Dr. András Polgari.

They guard knowledge

According to Endre Baracsi, this initiative sets an example and symbolizes selflessness, which is one of the most important human qualities. The vice president of the county assembly praised the role of Hungarian farmers in society at length, saying that they preserve ancient knowledge and pass it on to the next generation.

“Bread made from wheat and flour is the most important food, which means value, symbolizes heritage and expresses togetherness,” emphasized Endre Baracsi, the chairman of the county assembly, on the first county wheat consecration day.
After the greetings, the participants of Friday’s Balkan wheat consecration day walked to the wheat field next to the former Tsz plant on Bocskai Street, where István Jakab, president of Magosz and vice president of the Parliament, addressed the guests.

With heart and soul

– The farmer works not only with his physical strength and agricultural tools, but with his heart and soul. When he prepares to sow or watches the harvest with his watchful eyes, or when he is harvesting, his heart and soul are at work. The farmer respects nature, as life sprouts anew every year before his eyes. Regardless, there are problems, there are problems, it’s enough if we only think about the war raging in our neighborhood. The Magyarok Kenyere program also helps the Hungarians of Subcarpathia, the needy people there also receive from the wheat and the bread made from it, emphasized István Jakab. According to the president of Magosz, despite all the difficulties, Transcarpathian Hungarians want to live, and wheat and bread mean life to them.

– The county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg also set an example for the country during the “Bread of Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat” program. This initiative symbolizes unity, we must pass this on to our children – emphasized István Jakab before the wheat consecration.
After the speech of the president of Magosz, Gábor Szabó, the dean of the Greek Catholic Church in the Balkans, blessed the wheat field and the sprouting ears of wheat.
