It was presented at the Békés County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hajdúszoboszló District Court sentenced the man to 1 year and 2 months in prison for the crime of fraud causing greater damage and prohibited him from practicing public affairs for 2 years. The defendant was released on parole on June 5 of last year, the sentence would have expired on June 4 of this year. The man was previously convicted by the Szombathely District Court: on June 27 of last year, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for the crime of embezzlement of a larger value, the execution of which was suspended for a probationary period of 2 years and 6 months. The defendant committed his crime in Orosház while on parole and during the probationary period of the suspension.
On September 14 last year, in the morning hours, the injured man went shopping in his car to the market on Könd Street in Orosház. He carelessly pulled into one of the parking lots at the market, ran tangentially into another car, causing material damage. The defendant, who was staying nearby, noticed the accident and immediately went there. He untruthfully claimed that the damaged car belonged to his younger brother, that it had been bought recently, and that it would cost a lot to repair it. The misled victim offered to contact the insurance company in connection with claims settlement, but the defendant asked to compensate the damage in cash. The defendant stated on the spot that, according to his opinion, HUF 200,000 would cover the repair, before they both got into the victim’s car and drove to his apartment. On the way, the defendant pretended to be talking to a car mechanic on the phone in order to be able to compensate the victim with an even larger amount. He claimed that, according to the mechanic, HUF 200,000 would not cover the damage, so they finally agreed on a compensation amount of HUF 270,000. When the deceived victim got home, he took the amount out of his apartment and gave it to the defendant as compensation.
The Békés County Prosecutor’s Office said that the defendant misled the victim in an attempt to make an illegal profit, causing HUF 270 damage, which he has not yet reimbursed. The district attorney’s office, in its indictment, which also included a moderate motion in the event of the defendant’s confession, proposed that the court sentence the man to a prison sentence to be executed and determine that he cannot be released on parole. He requested that the court prohibit him from practicing public affairs, as well as grant the civil rights claim filed by the victim and oblige the defendant to compensate for the damage caused. In addition, the district prosecutor’s office also proposed that the court cancel the parole related to the man’s previous prison sentence, and also order the implementation of the suspended prison sentence of 1 year and 6 months imposed in the other case.
