The Miskolc Ballet staged a story of love that lasts beyond the grave

--

His correspondence with Héloise Abélard is one of the most famous love confessions in world literature. This medieval story is full of emotion, betrayal, and love to the grave. – The story of Abélard and Héloise may not be as well-known as, for example, Romeo and Juliet, but I think it is extremely interesting how love can be viable in this early medieval life, in this ecclesiastical world, he says. Attila Kozma, artistic director of the Miskolc Ballet, choreographer-director of the performance. – The members of the troupe are at home in many dance styles, so I have the opportunity to experiment. In the monastery scenes, we use small, closed, minimalist movement, which, at first, may not seem like it, but there is a lot of work. My goal here was to emphasize the formality, while in the secular scenes, on the contrary, we worked with larger, broader movements – explains the choreographer.

The one who plays Héloise Baked Buttercup according to him, this role is a bigger challenge for him than the previous ones. – Previously, I played more comedic characters, but this is an extremely dramatic role, so it is definitely more challenging to portray Héloise. When we watched the film about the life of Abélard and Héloise at our “reading test”, I already saw that somewhere this role was really me. It’s a bit idiosyncratic, a bit wild, but of course there’s also seriousness in it, says the dancer.

The company started this season with the staging of Anyegin, which also features one of the most beautiful love confessions in world literature, and a few years ago, the love that lasts beyond the grave also appeared in the Miskolc Ballet’s repertoire in the performance of Howling Winds. According to Attila Kozma, this story, which will be premiered on the opening day of the Horizont festival, will also fit into the lineup.

In the role of Abelard Ondřej Potužník the audience can see a dancer. The show’s set and costume designer Mara Bozókithe music Gábor Barva and Tamás Mohila was created especially for this performance, which can be seen from April 23 in the Game Theater.
