On April 25, 2024, the 2023/2024 was held in Székesfehérvár as usual. one of the regional finals of the McDonald’s Fair Play Cup in 2011, in which our boys and girls teams from the capital could play against the champions of Baranya, Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom and Tolna counties.

The 5-team boy-girl groups played in a round-robin system and the first two placed reached the national finals.

For the boys this year, the II. District II. Ferenc Rákóczi High School represented Budapest.

In the first match, neither team from Budapest was able to score a goal in the regular time, despite the fact that they played in the upper hand, but after that, in the penalty shootout, the “Nagy László High School” (Baranya etc.) proved to be more accurate. At the second meeting, II. District II. Ferenc Rákóczi High School’s field dominance has already resulted in goals, they managed to beat “Katalin Dobó High School.” (Komárom-Esztergom vm) team. In the second half of the tournament, despite numerous attempts from Budapest – the first to advance at the end of the day – “Garay Boys” (Tolna etc.) band he saved his early hit and earned the 3 points. In the last match, the home team “Big Mac” (Fejér vs.) playing a one-and-one match after a 2-2 regular time, the Budapest team sold several seven-meter goals.

The II. Rákóczi Ferenc High School qualified for the national finals in 2nd place in the group with 6 points, similar to last year, with a better regular time result against each other overall.

Viktor Fábián (team attendant): Once again, we finished in 2nd place, but last year’s “netless” promotion was achieved this time in even tougher matches. My watch often indicated an abnormal heart rate, almost all the matches of the tournament were included in the final result. I think we dominated the majority of the matches, but unfortunately the results did not reflect this. If we had to, we rose like a phoenix, I think so we deservedly made it to the top 8 teams, even if we were lucky. I am very happy, as we have reached the set goal. The guys gave their all, I’m proud of them. Let’s take a break and in Telki we will do everything we can to ensure that last year’s feat will be successful this year as well.

For the girls, a team from Budapesti Gazdasági SZC Pesterzsébet Technikum called “Pekszi” represented Budapest.

In the first match, our girls did not manage to score a goal, they lost 5-0 to “Ady’s girl” (Tolna vm) team. In the second match, “Dóbó Katalin High School.” (Against the Komárom-Esztergom vm) team, the Budapest team found itself somewhat and freed itself, but the victory was not achieved here either. (1-0) In the third match, the first “Pekszi” goal was scored, but even this was not enough for success, they finished with a score of 4-1, showing confident play throughout the tournament “Rod” against (Fejér etc.). In the last match, “Cistercian Order” (Baranya vm)’s team scored 3-0 points to advance to the next round.

Judit Bárkáni (team attendant): We were very pleased to be able to represent Budapest as regional champions at this extremely high-quality event. Teacher László Babály deserves special recognition, who unfortunately could not be here due to illness, without him we certainly would not have made it this far. It is true that we finished in 5th place, but with the experience gained here, I think everyone could only win. We met many different teams, it was very useful and educational for us. Since our players have not yet graduated, it is almost certain that we will enroll in the program again next year.

We congratulate our teams, the girls did their best, and it is again a pleasure that II. District II. Thanks to Ferenc Rákóczi High School, we will once again be there in the national final to be held in Telki on May 25, 2024 with the participation of 8-8 teams.
