At a press conference, the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) reported on the details of Thursday’s attacks on signature-gathering activists. As is well known, representatives of several opposition parties announced on their Facebook page that their colleagues working at signature collection points were attacked by coordinated attacks. Soma Csécsi, the spokesperson of the BRFK, stated on Friday morning that it can be stated as a fact that there is no connection between the two cases.

The first report came from Deák Ferenc tér, where a man attacked workers in one of the tents. He was brought to the police station for disorderly conduct, but he was so drunk that the questioning of the suspect could only begin later. The police also considered the man’s psychiatric examination justified. There were no injuries in the downtown attack.

The second announcement came from Heltai Square in Békásmegyer, where the recommendation collectors were disturbed by drinking and loud entertainment. However, the arriving police officers did not find any signs of this at the scene, so they checked the camera footage to see if there had really been an irregularity.

According to our information, there were no more attacks on Blaha Lujza tér, one of the whistleblowers just didn’t know it was on Deák Ferenc tér.
