The Debrecen municipality ordered another thousand rainwater collectors

The purpose of the “Water is our common treasure” rainwater collection campaign is to draw the attention of the population to the importance of rainwater collection and to keep the water in place – declares the Debrecen municipality. As part of this, in 2023, residents living in the southern part of the city could apply for rainwater collection barrels for free.

In view of the success of the announced campaign, in 2023 another 500 rainwater collectors of 300 liters each and their accessories were acquired from their own resources, and after assessing the needs of the population, the municipality launched a public procurement procedure for another 5,000 rainwater collectors, also from its own resources. The interest was so great that requests for rainwater collection barrels already reached 5,500 by April 20.

Therefore, the general meeting has now decided to contribute to the purchase of another 1,000 barrels.

According to the original proposal, dark green containers, slightly different from last year, with a capacity of 10 liters larger, but at the same time with a similar appearance, will be distributed – according to a preliminary agreement with the supplier, scheduled until the 2nd or 3rd week of May 2024. The General Assembly transfers free of charge “Water is our common treasure!” during the implementation of the residential rainwater collection program, the individual ownership rights of the rainwater collection barrels and their accessories, which are the property of the municipality of Debrecen as of the date of handover, to those persons who have reached the age of 18 and who are domiciled in Debrecen and who agree that the the rainwater collection barrel and its accessories are used in accordance with their intended purpose in order to promote the goals of local environmental and nature protection.

Of course, the use of untreated rainwater collected with these barrels is only recommended for garden watering – once again drew attention to the Debrecen municipality.
