At the end of 2023, the municipality of Hajdúnánás decided to prepare the environmental impact study of the Tedej settlement. For this, an external expert company was requested, which was completed at the beginning of this year with the necessary tests and the document compiled based on them, which was discussed by the city’s representative body at its meeting on April 25.
The stench on Tedje is unbearable
– The environmental impact study draws attention to two important things. One of them is the smell associated with the animal husbandry of the company there. Unfortunately, this is a long-standing problem, we constantly receive requests and complaints from the public in this regard. At the last meeting held in Tedej, a resident there almost desperately asked for a solution to the problem, because he can no longer open his windows either during the day or at night due to the smell, and because of this, he cannot go out into the open air – deputy mayor Ildikó Nagné Legény informed us.
The other problem that requires a more urgent solution is the appearance of petroleum derivatives in the soil and groundwater of Tedej. The investigation showed that there are places where about thirty times the permissible level can be found. They even found harmful substances at a depth of four meters
said the deputy mayor of Hajdúnánás. He said that as a native of Hajdúnáná from Tedej, and as the local government representative of the district, the deputy mayor of the city, he tried to find a solution to the problem as soon as possible.
– I contacted the authorities and the relevant agricultural company to ask for information about where the contamination of the soil in Tedej comes from. After all, these are petroleum derivatives, and from the ingredients it can be concluded that fuel got into the soil, said Ildikó Nagyné Legény. As he continued, the authorities informed him that remediation is underway at Tedej Zrt.

A substance dangerous for children was found in the vegetables
– I did not receive any information about the nature of the case, how long it has been taking place, or what damages have been incurred. That is why I contacted the company’s representatives in a letter, in which I asked for more information so that we could find a common solution to the problem, said the deputy mayor of Hajdúnánás. He said that he did not receive an answer to his letter until the committee meetings, so he asked the company’s managers to attend the meeting of the representative body, but they did not show up there either.
The impact study reveals that certain plants and vegetables grown in Tedeji soil contain harmful substances that can even cause infertility and are dangerous for children
– Ildikó Nagné Legény explained. Therefore, the mayor of the city proposed that the municipality provide its own organic vegetables to the residents of Tedej.
– The board made two decisions. With one, we accepted the impact study, and with the other, on the one hand, we involve experts to solve the problems that have arisen, and we provide healthy vegetables produced by the municipality to the residents of Tedeji so that they do not consume the produce there, explained the deputy mayor.
