Julian Nagelsmann, the captain of the host German national team, which is in the same group as the Hungarians, stated that his team wants to win the summer European football championship.

“When you participate in a tournament like this, or just like in a match, your goal is to win. We also have no other goal than to show up for every match like this,” said Nagelsmann, under whose leadership the Germans defeated both the French and the Dutch in the warm-up match last year.
“First, of course, we have to get through the group stage, and then we have to perform well in the direct elimination stage in order to have a successful Euro,” said the coach.
On behalf of the German Football Association (DFB), President Bernd Neuendorf set the semi-finals as the goal for the host team.
The Germans will meet the Scots in the tournament’s opening match on June 14 in Munich, the Hungarians in Stuttgart five days later, and the Swiss in Group A in Frankfurt on June 23.
